Umphrey’s McGee played a very special show last night close to home in Peoria, IL as the band not only celebrated crew member Steve Britz’s birthday, but also honored the late Yes bassist Chris Squire.

Kicking things off with “Front Porch,” which would serve as the theme for the first set, the group welcomed out Britz on percussion following a “Resolution” that transitioned back into “Front Porch.” The jam would lead to a bustout performance of Billy Joel’s “Root Beer Rag,” which hadn’t been played since 2003. Once again finding their way back into “Front Porch,” the group brought Britz back on stage for a birthday celebration before jamming into Led Zeppelin’s “Hey Hey What Can I Do” as well as the final section of “Front Porch.”

During the second set, which featured cuts like “Dump City,” “The Bottom Half,” “FF” and “Out of Order,” the group closed the set with a tribute to Yes bassist Chris Squire, who passed away after a battle with leukemia. The band offered up “Roundabout,” a more recent cover in the band’s repertoire.

Next up for Umphrey’s is the start of their July 4th celebration at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, CO. They will also play Red Rocks on July 3 and headline High Sierra Music Festival on July 4.
