In a new interview with Billboard, Trixie Garcia says that the Jerry Garcia estate initially explored the idea of projecting a Jerry Garcia hologram during the Fare Thee Well run.

“We came very close to making the Jerry hologram,” she said. “I met with people and was very interested in trying to make the Jerry hologram where he appears for a couple seconds — like a rainbow.”

The idea was eventually squashed due to licensing complications as well as technical limitations. “It was just too much,” Garcia said. The hologram would’ve been the second major occurrence in the music world, as Coachella projected a Tupac hologram during a performance from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

As for Garcia’s thoughts on the upcoming Chicago run, which will close out the Fare Thee Well run, she says she hopes Trey Anastasio finds his comfort zone during the run. “People were saying they thought he was being timid but there’s a lot of great musicians on stage and the mark of a good musician is not trying to hog all the stage time. He’s a conscientious guy and I hope by the 4th and 5th he starts being a little pushier.”

Garcia even contextualized the energy at the Fare Thee Well shows, saying, “It’s an amazing thing to be a part of — a stadium floor of love and good vibes and so many other positive changes going on in the outside world last week with gay marriage and healthcare… It’s powerful, transformative energy for, like, humanity.”

She explained that her father’s presence was “absolutely” felt at the shows. “How could you not when there’s 50,000 people channeling him?,” she added.

Garcia also had some kind words for Fare Thee Well promoter (and Relix/Jambands.com publisher) Peter Shapiro. When asked if she ever thought the band would reunite for these final shows, Garcia gave the credit to Shapiro, saying, “Pete is the guy who was able to do it. I had always hoped because all the guys are still around and playing music and it’s been a time of nostalgia for everybody and here we are thanks to Pete. He is really the one. He is magical.”
