After opening the first night of their Deer Creek run with a huge bustout in “Let You Down,” DMB kept that theme going as Matthews took the stage solo on night two to deliver an extremely rare solo version of “Spoon” following the opening “Rye Whiskey.”

The Before These Crowded Streets standout hasn’t been played at a show since the famed 8/30/2014 version which saw Brandi Carlile and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready join in on the tune. What made last night’s version special is that Matthews has never performed the song solo at a DMB show, with his seven solo renditions of the song coming during various radio performances during the 1998 album promotional cycle.

Other highlights from DMB’s Deer Creek finale included another appearance from The Lovely Ladies as they joined the band during the second set on“Stay,” “Be Yourself,” “Burning Down the House,” “Lying in the Hands of God,” “Save Me” and “Granny.”

DMB’s tour continues next week in Toronto.
