My Morning Jacket got some help from a very familiar face last night during their headlining set at their hometown Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY. Guitarist Johnny Quaid, former MMJ guitarist and cousin of frontman Jim James, joined the band for their encore that included a six-song performance with cuts like “Steam Engine,” “Phone Went West,” “One Big Holiday” and several others.

Quaid spent four years with MMJ, leaving in 2004 following the success of the band’s major label debut It Still Moves. The departure, which also coincided with the departure of keyboardist Danny Cash, gave way to current members Carl Broemel and Bo Koster.

Other notes from My Morning Jacket’s set at Forecastle was an appearance from Conor Oberst, who was there with his band Desaparecidos. Oberst joined MMJ on the Circuital cut “Wonderful (The Way I Feel)” which also featured the Louisville Orchestra, who joined in through “Gideon.”

Jim James also made the rounds earlier in the day, joining Dr. Dundriff and Friends for a take on his solo song “State of the Art.” Watch that below.
