The National headlined the first night of Eaux Claires Festival, curated in part by the band’s Aaron Dessner along with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.

Naturally, the band brought out several guests throughout as Sufjan Stevens came out for a series of tunes including “Afraid of Everyone,” “Squalor Victoria” and the newer “I Need My Girl.” Following a take on “This is the Last Time,” the band broke out a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Peggy-O.” The National, along with a slew of special guests, are still working towards a future release of a Grateful Dead tribute album.

Later in the set, fellow curator Justin Vernon joined the fold for “Slow Show” and later on “Terrible Love.” Both Vernon and Stevens then came out for the finale of “Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks.”

On the Dead cover, Aaron Dessner took to Twitter to respond to Grantland’s Steven Hyden, saying that there will certainly be more Dead material in the band’s repertoire, saying they’ve “gone deep.”
