The Tonight Show stars Jimmy Fallon and The Roots joined U2 at New York’s Madison Square Garden last night during the third show of the Irish rockers’ eight-night run at the World’s Most Famous Arena. The sit ins were the climax of a lengthy gag, which has taken place every night during U2’s iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour.

U2 pulled a fan onstage to dance during “Mysterious Ways.” Bono then pulled a second fan onstage to help sing “Desire.” However, the fan turned out to be Fallon, who at first hid his face from the crowd with a homemade sign that read “singer with a broken finger.” (Fallon recently injured his finger after tripping on a rug.) After thanking Bono and U2, Fallon brought out The Roots’ Questlove, Captain Kirk Douglas and Damon “Tuba Gooding Jr” to the stage. He also invited the Dap-Kings’ Ian Hendrickson-Smith and David Guy, both of whom are part of The Tonight Show’s horn section, to help the group through “Angel of Harlem.” Bono also noted the numerous celebrities in attendance during an extended speech promoting his charity Product Red, including Paul McCartney, Nile Rodgers, Angélique Kidjo, Mario Batali, Alicia Keys, Rick Santorum, Declan Maunsell and Steve Lillywhite.
