Phish returned to Nashville, TN last night to headline the rather intimate Ascend Amphitheater and in doing so, revived one of the more sought after jams in the band’s catalog.

During the second set, the band unleashed the definitive “Mike’s Groove” of the 3.0 era, beginning with a “Mike’s Song” that featured the highly coveted second jam. The 14-minute excursion went full-Type II and transitioned into a brief “Piper.” The closing segment of the set featured the first “Crosseyed & Painless” of the tour before the band fired into “Weekapaug Groove,” delivering another Type II jam with a surge of energy to close the set.

Other highlights from the show included a patient, funk-filled “Wolfman’s Brother” early on in the first set, as well as a “Birds of a Feather” that included teases of “The Birds.” To start the second set, the group also brought back another cover in TV On the Radio’s “Golden Age,” which dipped into some improv before transitioning into “Light.” Following the standout “Weekapaug Groove,” the group returned for a patient and soaring “Slave to the Traffic Light.”

Phish returns to the stage tonight in Kansas City, MO at the Starlight Theatre.
