Ryan Adams is recording a cover version of Taylor Swift’s 2014 chart-topping pop album 1989. The singer-songwriter, who once joked on Twitter about following up his punk rock-EP 1984 with a cover of the Swift album, has shared some footage of himself at his own PAX-AM Studio, where he is recording a Smiths-inspired rendition of the LP.

“Guaranteed saddest version of ‘Welcome to New York’ ever – or your tears back,” Adams wrote in an Instagram video with a clip of his take on the single to the smash record. According to his Instagram, Adams has also recorded “Blank Space” and “Style.” As he noted in a tweet to Swift, “We’re sandblasting them and they’re holding steady.”

A few Twitter users have apparently been notified Swift about Adams’ project, and it looks like she’s pretty excited about it. The pop icon tweeted at Adams’ account, “is this true??????? I WILL PASS OUT.” After Adams confirmed the news, Swift responded with, “Cool I’m not gonna be able to sleep tonight or ever again and I’m going to celebrate today every year as a holiday. I’M CALM”
