Phish brought the heat with an old school setlist at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH last night. The show featured a grand total of eight tour debuts, as well as a few big jams and a plea for Ween to reunite.

Things got started with a formidable “A Song I Hear The Ocean Sing” before “My Sweet One,” “Wilson” and “Timber (Jerry)” marked a string a tour debuts. 2015’s first take on Ween’s “Roses Are Free” came next, and guitarist Trey Anastasio followed the tune with a plea for Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo (aka Gene and Dean Ween) to “get back together and start playing.” Anastasio also described Ween, who broke up in 2012, as one of his all-time favorite bands.

“Rift” and “The Moma Dance” were up next before hand band went into their first rendition of Norman Blake’s “Ginseng Sullivan” since October 29, 2013. A blissful “Wingsuit” then gave way to the year’s first “It’s Ice,” which segued into a well-jammed “Bathtub Gin” to close out the set.

The night took a serious turn into old school setlist territory during the second set, which kicked off with yet another exploratory “Chalk Dust Torture” that was left unfinished as it seamlessly moved into a nearly 20 minute, improv-laden “Tweezer.” The crowd-pleaser eventually made a soft landing on to fan-favorite “The Lizards,” marking the first time that Gamhendge classic has been played this year. A rare “Makisupa Policeman” (the first since November 1, 2013) kept the crowd on its toes, and spirits stayed high through the fairly standard “Ghost” that followed. The second set then ended in a big way as a solid “Harry Hood” turned into typically rocking “Tweezer Reprise,” and the band returned for a “Good Times Bad Times” encore to close out the show.

Phish will make their way to the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Elkhorn, WI tonight for the first of two performances at the venue.
