Phish returned to The Mann Center in Philadelphia, PA last night to kick off the first of two shows. Once again, the band took advantage of the first set, offering up several tour debuts including “Skin It Back,” which made its first appearance in the setlist since August 22, 2012, or 111 shows.

And again, The Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House material took centerstage as “Martian Monster” followed the “Crowd Control” opener. The band would jam back into “Martian” following “Skin It Back,” providing one of the highlights of the show. Other notables in the first set included a “Vultures” as well as first-set jam vehicles like “David Bowie” and “Ghost” before the band closed the set with an a capella “Grind.”

The second frame featured a series of favorites throughout the tour, with the opening “Fuego” containing the most improv of the night. During the following “Rock and Roll,” the band changed the lyrics around to reference Philadelphia before Anastasio took the reins on a “46 Days” which segued smoothly into “Taste.”

After a “2001” into “Sand,” the set closed with a brief “Horse” and “Silent in the Morning” segment before a more straightforward “Cavern” and “Backwards Down the Number Line.” The group returned for a standalone “Julius” encore.

Phish returns to The Mann Center tonight.
