As Phish charge down the home stretch of their summer tour, the band delivered yet another creative, innovative set during their stop at Raleigh’s Walnut Creek Amphitheater.

The signs of a loose, unpredictable night were evident right off the bat as the band came out with a slowed down version of “Llama.” The tune, played in more of a funk style, would set the tone for the first part of the first set as the funk was abound throughout with cuts like “Moma Dance,” “Yarmouth Road” and “Tube.”

The first set was also highlighted by a tight, yet fiery “Maze” as well as a closing pair of “Wolfman’s Brother” and “Suzy Greenberg” which ignited the crowd heading into setbreak.

After a rare second set opening “Wedge,” the band moved into TV On the Radio’s “Golden Age,” just the second of the summer. Some interplay between McConnell and Anastasio led smoothly into “Reba,” which made a rare second set appearance. An intense jam followed the composed section of the live staple, with each member lifting one another to the climax of the tune.

With the energy already at a high, Phish launched into “Mike’s Song,” a song that has made waves in the Phish world recently. While this version didn’t contain the much sought-after second jam, it did give way to a fairly expansive “Ghost” that touched on some darker, ambient themes before Page McConnell took lead on the first “No Quarter” since the band’s run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in 2014.

In the “Weekapaug Groove” that followed, Anastasio continued the “No Quarter” theme with some teases of the song in the jam that ultimately led into “First Tube,” which would bring the set to a close.

Continuing with the cover bustouts, the band closed the show with Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire,” the first rendition of the tune since 2013.
