Phish returned to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO, last night for the first in a three-night run that will close out their current tour. The set saw the band play mostly tour staples before ending with a three-year old bust out in the encore.

The guys came out for the first set with some tight, focused rock, again starting the night off with “Tube” that led into “Ghost” before rolling into “Halley’s Comet” into “Undermind,” “Yarmouth Road” into “Bathtub Gin,” “Waiting All Night,” “Horn” and “The Wedge.” The first segment was closed out with a run of “46 Days” into “Run Like an Antelope.”

The band stretched out a bit more in the second set, letting the jams flow as the night progressed. A solid “Wolfman’s Brother” began the second frame then led into the newer “Blaze On,” a cover of TV On The Radio’s “Golden Age,” “Roses Are Free” and “Fuego.” The band again closed out the show proper with “Walls of the Cave” that came out of “Wading in the Velvet Sea.”

The encore of the night, for which Trey Anastasio came out wearing a “Let Fish Suck” shirt similar to the “Let Trey Sing” shirt made famous by Bob Weir at the Fare Thee Well shows, ended up showcasing a notable bust out as Phish played “Hold Your Head Up,” the first since last July, with a Jon Fishman-headed cover of Syd Barret’s “Bike” in the middle, the first instance of the song in 132 shows, the last being June 28, 2012. The band closed out night one with the Rolling Stone’s “Loving Cup.”
