Joe Russo’s Almost Dead got some help from Nicole Atkins on the second night of their three night run at Brooklyn Bowl. Atkins, who also employs Almost Dead guitarist Scott Metzger in her own band, sat in on vocals for a number of tunes throughout the two sets.

During the first set, she started the show with the band for “The Music Never Stopped” and “Dancing in the Streets.” Atkins would return later on for “The Stranger (Two Souls in Communion).” She would then return later on in the second set to help the group close out the show with “Going Down the Road Feeling Bad” and the a capella finale of “We Bid You Goodnight.”

The group also busted into an impromptu rendition of the classic Benevento-Russo Duo song “Becky” partway through their second set. Benevento and Russo had not performed the Best Reason to Buy the Sun instrumental together since they participated in an all-star jam at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl as part of the Freaks Ball in 2012.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead return to the stage tonight for their final show of the run.
