Earlier this week, supergroup The Word brought their collaborative funk to the Concord Music Hall in Chicago, IL. The band was again supported by Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers, who welcomed out Word and North Mississippi AllStars guitarist and singer Luther Dickinson for a cover of “Atlantic City.”

Helm and Dickinson both have solid roots in seminal American music, being the children of The Band’s Levon Helm and producer/musician Jim Dickinson, respectively. The two came together in Chicago to pay tribute to the late Helm with one of his band’s classics. View the performance above, courtesy of photographer Charles “Ize of the World” Izenstark.

The Word continue their tour tonight at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA, and will be part of New York’s CMJ Music Marathon tomorrow night at Webster Hall.
