This past Thursday night, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards joined some friends on stage at New York’s legendary Apollo Theater for a couple of Stones favorites.

The appearance was part of the Jazz Foundation of America’s annual Great Night in Harlem. Richards played “Happy” and “Gimme Shelter,” the latter of which he dedicated to Merry Clayton, who sang on the original version and was injured in a car accident in 2014. Richards prefaced the song with some words for Clayton, saying, “Now you know how many friends you got, honey.”

Richards was supported by his X-Pensive Winos band, which includes Ivan Neville, guitarist Waddy Wachtel, bassist Willie Weeks and drummer Steve Jordan. The group was also joined by vocalists Sarah Dash and Stones singers Lisa Fischer and Bernard Fowler.

The night also included a tribute to the legendary Sonny Rollins, who was on hand to share some words with the audience. Other speakers included Keb’ Mo’, Danny Glover and Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen.

Rolling Stone shared videos of the two songs, which you can view below.
