In a new interview with The New York Times, Phil Lesh says his bladder cancer is “under control” and that his doctors “are very confident that it’s not going to be an issue going forward.”

Lesh also dished on Dead & Company, saying his lack of involvement in the project was a “nonstarter from the beginning.” Lesh added, “It was just understood. They were all ready before we even started rehearsals, talking about going out themselves. I’m just not into touring, and those guys are.” While the members of Dead & Co. declined to comment, Lesh also mentioned that he doesn’t plan to run into his former bandmates despite being in proximity over the Halloween weekend (Lesh will play at the Capitol Theatre beginning tonight). “Absolutely not. I am so busy,” he said. The bassist did note that they have dinner plans upon everyone’s return from tour.

Phil Lesh kicks off his run with Phil Lesh & Friends tonight at the Capitol Theatre. Meanwhile, Dead & Company hit the stage at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night.
