Phil Lesh made his official return to the stage last night at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY following his bladder cancer diagnosis. Joining Lesh in New York for this run is guitarist Stanley Jordan along with John Kadlecik, Jason Crosby and Tony Leone.

The ensemble kicked off with a familiar run of “Help On the Way,” “Slipknot!” and “Franklin’s Tower” before moving through tunes like “Ship of Fools,” “Greensleeves,” “Sitting on Top of the World,” “Bertha” and others. After the second set opening “Unbroken Chain,” the band dipped into a Jimi Hendrix segment with “All Along the Watchtower” and “Little Wing.” The night came to a close with a take on George Harrison’s “Any Road” following Lesh’s donor rap.

Later on in the run, Lesh will recreate two Grateful Dead shows at the Capitol including the 11/1/1985 show from Richmond, VA 30 years to the day. On November 5, the band will revive the Grateful Dead’s February 19, 1971 show played at the same venue they will occupy during this run.

Phil & Friends returns to the stage tonight.
