When Yonder Mountain String Band took to the stage at LC Pavilion in Columbus, OH, it looked as if they were walking into a back alley, as the stage was transformed into a urban environment complete with graffiti and posters on the brick wall and road signs adorning the stage. For the night, this band would be called Yonder Mountain Punk Band.

The band themselves were dressed appropriately punky, in denim jackets, ripped shirts and colorful and/or spiked hair. The night would see the band take from an array of punk catalogues, playing two sets and about 30 songs.

Yonder started off with The Buzzcock’s “Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t‘ve),” which they covered on their most recent release, Black Sheep, and played a first set that also included Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation,” The Descendent’s “Clean Sheets,” Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Holland 1945,” The Sex Pistols’ “Holiday in the Sun” and The Clash’s “Safe European Home.”

The second round featured Minutemen’s “Jesus and Tequila” and “Joe McCarthy’s Ghost,” Dead Kennedys’ “Kill the Poor” and another Clash tune, “Spanish Bombs.” The night ended with a run through of “Black Sheep” that turned into “Punk Sheep” to round out the rockin’ affair.
