Rashad Owens, the driver of the car that caused the SXSW crash that left four dead and many others injured, was found guilty of capital murder today, according to The Austin-American Statesman. He will spend the rest of his life in prison with no possibility of parole.

According to The Statesman, about 50 people were in attendance in the courtroom as the verdict was read. Owens, 23, was charged with capital murder and four counts of felony murder. Jurors unanimously agreed that Owens intentionally or knowingly caused the death of two or more people.

On March 13, 2014, Owens drove his car into a crowd of people during the annual SXSW Festival in an effort to evade the police. “There is no other answer than that the defendant knew what he was doing — and he didn’t care,” prosecutor Amy Meredith said in a closing statement. “He didn’t care who was in his way. He was not going to be stopped. He was not going to go to jail.”
