Photographer Michael Weintrob in currently in the process of producing a photo book that will feature many musicians posing with (and as) their instruments.

Instrumenthead is a photo project that has been displayed at various pop-up shows around the country, including at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Now, Weintrob has set up an IndiGoGo campaign for supporters to donate to the production of the book.

Artists photographed for Instrumenthead include Bootsy Collins, Derek Trucks, Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Matisyahu, Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools, Blue Traveler’s John Popper, String Cheese Incident’s Kyle Hollingsworth, bluegrass virtuoso Sam Bush and many more.

Here’s what Weintrob had to say about the Instrumenthead:

I began calling people who were known for the instrument they played (as well as for their look and style). I asked, “How are we going to tell your story? How will people know that it is you, without seeing your face? What is it about you that makes you special?” The photo shoots became a collaborative exchange between the musicians and myself.
