Jorma Kaukonen celebrated his 75th birthday with a pair of shows at the Beacon Theatre featuring Jack Casady and a slew of special guests as Kaukonen paid homage to each era of his career.

On the opening night, Kaukonen and Casady performed an acoustic set to kick off the night where they were joined by John Hammond on harmonica. The three-song set included “Hesitation Blues,” “Come Back Baby” and “Death Don’t Have No Mercy.”

The band then returned for an electric set with drummer Justin Guip. Throughout the rest of the night, they would be joined by Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams sporadically for covers of Johnny Cash’s “Big River,” Jefferson Airplane’ s “Good Shepherd” and Blind Willie Johnson’s “Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning.” The encore included a take on “Sugaree” with Williams on lead vocals.

On November 21, Jeff Pehrson, Rachael Price, Teresa Williams and Larry Campbell all helped Kaukonen and Casady recreate their Jefferson Airplane tribute set performed at this year’s Lockn’ Festival. Once again, Pehrson took lead vocals on tunes like “3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds” and “Plastic Fantastic Love” while Price took lead on “Greasy Heart,” “Law Man,” “Eskimo Blue Day” and “Feel So Good.” Williams led the band through “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love” as well as another encore take on “Sugaree.”

Larry Campbell joined in for the final two songs of the set, Walter Davis’ “Come Back Baby” and Jefferson Airplane’s “Feel So Good.”
