Scott Weiland, the former frontman of Stone Temple Pilots, passed away last night in his sleep according to TMZ. He was 48. The outlet is reporting that Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota while on the road with his band Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts. He is survived by his two children, Noah and Lucy and wife Jamie Wachtel.

Weiland rose to prominence as a part of California rock group Stone Temple Pilots, which delivered such hits like “Interstate Love Song,” “Vasoline” and others. Weiland was fired from the group in 2013 when the band replaced him with Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington. Weiland remained in the music world, however, fronting groups like Velvet Revolver, which featured Duff McKagan, among others. Weiland’s most recent release came in the form of Blaster, a record with his band The Wildabouts. This was the band’s only release.

While his cause of death is unknown at this time, Weiland battled substance abuse for a majority of his career, receiving two DUIs in 2003 and 2007 as well as being convicted of buying crack cocaine in 1995.
