Joseph Arthur will kick off 2016 with his sixth annual New Year’s celebration at New York’ City Winery. Though Arthur announced his January 1 performance several weeks ago, he has now confirmed that Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo will open the night.

It has been a busy few weeks for Ranaldo. Earlier this month he played a few Sonic Youth songs at New York’s Webster Hall during booking agency Ground Control Touring’s 15th anniversary celebration. (Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon also performed). Then, on December 16 Ranaldo and Tim Barnes helped reopen the long-dormant Brooklyn, NY DIY venue Market Hotel on a bill that also included fellow alt-rock survivors Sleater-Kinney.

As previously reported, City Winery will host a special Matisyahu Christmas performance tomorrow. The Revivalists frontman David Shaw will also play a solo show at the venue on Boxing Day, December 26.
