A number of musicians with close ties to The Band will pay tribute the music of Rick Danko next week. On Tuesday, December 29, Professor Louie & The Crowmatix will celebrate what would have been Danko’s 72nd birthday with a performance at Woodstock, NY’s Bearsville Theatre. In addition to Professor Louie—a longtime Band collaborator—the show will feature The Kingston Rock Of Ages Horns led by Dan Shaut, The Last Waltz’s Larry Packer, The Blues Hall Of Fame’s Michael Packer and Gary Solomon from The The Band Band.

Professor Louie & The Crowmatix’s Danko celebration will continue after the New Year rolls around. On January 2, the ensemble will perform a Danko tribute show at Beacon, NY’s The Towne Crier. Solomon, Larry Packard and Tom Pacheco will also take part in the celebration.

The Crowmatix features a number of musicians who have played with The Band and other folk-rock icons: Miss Marie (Rick Danko), Gary Burke (Bob Dylan, Joe Jackson), John Platania (Van Morrison) and Frank Campbell (Levon Helm).

Danko passed away on December 10, 1999. His death effectively ended The Band’s final touring phase.
