Jam Cruise 14 ships out tonight from Miami, FL, and last night, the festival-at-sea posted a last-minute update to the roster, as bassist and Jam Cruise veteran George Porter Jr will not be able to join the Jam.

In his place will be Oteil Burbridge, former Allman Brothers and current Dead & Company bassist, who Jam Cruise calls in their note Porter’s “brother from another mother.”

Porter, who has been on all the previous Jam Cruises after the first two in 2014, was set to lead the first night of the festival’s Masters Camp at Sea series. Burbridge will be taking his place in the Camp, and Porter’s position as Jam Room’s first-night leader will be filled by Eddie Roberts and Robert Walter. Read the full note from Jam Cruise below.

We are truly sorry to announce that due to circumstances out of all of our control, George Porter, Jr. won’t be able to join us onboard. He was extremely excited to be with us, his Jam Cruise family as the main bass player for Masters Camp at Sea. But all is not lost…We have all hustled over the past 24 hours to bring you this good news. George’s brother from another mother, Oteil Burbridge, fresh off Dead & Co tour, is hopping on a plane to come fill in at Masters Camp. This makes George, and hopefully all of you, very happy.

George, or as some of us like to call him, the Jam Room king, was to be the host on our first night. We rallied a few of your other favorites, to fill the big shoes. Look out for some tasty jams led by Eddie Roberts and Robert Walter.

We wish George so much love and can’t wait to have him back with us again on Jam Cruise 15!
