Jared Scharff, who has served as guitarist for Saturday Night Live for nine seasons, records instrumental music under the moniker Pearl Lion. His newest effort for the project is a dueling Light/Dark EP release that represents, in his words, “the two main feelings I love in music, that light, melodic, vibey emotional side ( Light EP) and that other super intense, amped up, rocked-out, beat-maker vibe ( Dark EP).”

While Scharff has already released two tracks from the Light EP on Pearl Lion’s Souldcloud page, the new video for “Alpha4” is the first look at the Dark side of the project. The video for the energetic song follows an animated video game character as he looks to find happiness in an alternate-reality Los Angeles. View the video below.

From Scharff:

“The song was always titled ‘Alpha4’ as a working title. But after hearing the finished project it gave me the feeling of a video game star, named ‘Alpha 4’ running around in a world of humans and toons. So after that initial idea, the end result is a story about a B list video game hero ‘Alpha4’ who gets bullied/laughed at throughout the day for being ‘different.’ He makes his way through a typical day in Los Angeles (laundromat, bars, hollywood blvd, etc) eventually looking to find a place where everyone fits in, toons and humans both. By the end of the video he finds a place where all toons and humans exist together and even finds love! It’s a story of equality, love and finding your place in the world.”
