Phish weren’t the only band to kick off a destination event last night, as Gov’t Mule played the first night of their Island Exodus in Runaway Bay, Jamaica, welcoming several guests and keeping the island vibes flowing all night long.

The first set started off by bringing saxophonist Ron Holloway to the stage for an appropriate jam of Bob Marley’s “Exodus” that segued into “Rebel Rebel Music,” a mashup of Marley’s “Rebel Music” and David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel,” a Mule debut and a tribute to the late musical legend.

Later in the set, the group brought out the second guest of the night, as guitarist John Scofield joined in for “Which Way Do We Run” and his own “Hottentot” before Holloway came back to join the collective for a set-closing “Doin’ It To Death.”

Scofield came back onstage for the rest of the show as the guest list started to pile up, with Holloway returning after the “Rocking Horse” second set opener, Rocky Lindsley taking over on drums for the final two songs starting with “32/20 Blues” and Jackie Greene joining in for the set closer of the Grateful Dead’s “Sugaree.”

The band closed out the night with a two-song Ray Charles encore of “I Believe to my Soul” and “Night Time is the Right Time” with Holloway, Scofield and Greene.
