Over the weekend, the Northeast saw a perfect storm of seminal jambands form when God Street Wine, Strangefolk and Assembly of Dust teamed up to for Assembly of Strange Wine for two shows, first at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, then at Boston, MA’s Paradise Rock Club the following night. The two nights were filled with cross sit ins and special guests.

The first night at the Capitol Theatre set the mood with an Assembly of Dust set that included a sit in from Jason Crosby, who would appear with all three bands throughout the night, on “Honest Hour.” Strangefolk joined the band for “Whistle Clock” and “All the Same,” while God Street Wine came on for “Filter.” Guitarist Scott Metzger played both nights with AOD, filling the place of Adam Terrell, who had a scheduling conflict.

For Strangefolk’s first night, the band brought on Aaron Maxwell to sing lead on “Sometimes,” and Metzger returned to the stage to help out with the Grateful Dead’s “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad.”

God Street Wine closed the first night out, opening with a Davide Bowie tribute, “Life On Mars?” Reid Genauer, a founding member of both Strangefolk and AOD, helped out with a run of “Hellfire” > “Wall” and more. The band also welcomed members of both other bands for their encore, which began with the live debut of “Oh Wonderful One” (a Jon Bevo tune that recently premiered on Relix.com) and another Bowie cut, “Golden Years.”

The second night in Boston saw another guest-filled evening, with AOD kicking things off with a set that featured members of the other two bands sitting in on almost every tune, plus another appearance by Crosby, who once again appeared in each of the three sets.

Strangefolk’s middle set featured another Bowie tribute, as the band finished off with a run of “Space Oddity” with “Speculator” stuck in the middle. Several members of the other two bands sat in on the tune.

God Street Wine’s finale set featured Crosby on keys for most of the songs, plus AOD’s Dave Diamond took on some percussion duties. Genauer and Jon Trafton also helped out for several songs, finishing out a two-night extravaganza of music and friends.
