New York City has declared today, January 20, David Bowie Day in honor of the fallen singer. Bowie’s Facebook page confirmed the news.

The proclamation coincides with Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, topping the charts, giving him his first number one U.S. album. The record has also topped out in the U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and more.

Today in New York, Acting Commissioner Luis Castro will present the proclamation at the curtain call of the final performance of Lazarus, the New York Theater Workshop production Bowie co-created.
