Umphrey’s McGee kicked off their three-night stand at New York’s Beacon Theatre last night with tributes to two fallen icons, including a cover debut during the encore.

After a first set that included staples like “Plunger” and “Rocker Part 2,” UM came back out with a second set that included a slinky “Booth Love” that gave way to “You Belong to the City,” a tribute to the late Eagles member Glenn Frey that can be viewed below, thanks to Kyle Miller. The set also included a “Tribute to the Spinal Shaft” that featured a tease of Dr. Dre’s 2001 cut “Xxplosive.”

Coming back out for the encore, the band immediately busted out a debut of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” that led into a funky rendition of Bowie’s “Fame” that closed out night one with a fitting tribute to the late legend. Watch Miller’s video of the encore above.

Umphrey’s McGee will continue their Beacon run tonight.
