Metallica played a pre-Super Bowl 50 show at AT&T Park in San Francisco last night, home to the San Francisco Giants. To start the encore, James Hetfield dedicated the Irish traditional tune “Whiskey in the Jar” to late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. Burton grew up in Castro Valley, CA, nearby the stadium where the band playing.

Burton passed away in 1986 while on tour with the band supporting Master of Puppets. In a bus accident, Burton was thrown from his bunk, resulting in his death. Jason Newsted took over until 2001, before current Metallica bassist Robert Trujilo joined the band in 2003 following a pair of years with touring bassist Bob Rock.
