Umphrey’s McGee continued their winter tour with the first of two shows at The National in Richmond, VA. The group’s two-set show was highlighted with some of their oldest material and some creative jamming.

Among the highlights, a rare opening “Morning Song” as well as the first “Bad Poker” since November 6, 2014. For the set closing “2×2,” the group jammed on Mangione’s “Feels So Good” in the middle of the tune.

The second set performance of “Plunger” saw the band reach back to a Jimmy Stewart first seen in the 6/7/2007 “Triple Wide,” which features a lyrical section as well. The following “Wife Soup” took a brief foray into Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire,” a common interlude for the group in the middle of an improvisation. The set closing “Hurt Bird Bath” also featured elements of “Mind Left Body.”

For the encore, the band broke out one of their most reliable covers, Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Lenny” which led into the end of “Nothing Too Fancy.”

The band will play a Valentine’s Day show once again in Richmond, VA tonight.
