The Sway Machinery

A number of band’s will celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim with concerts in the New York area this Wednesday, March 23. Purim commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman and is traditionally one of festive event that includes costumes and noise-making groggers.

In Greenwich Village, (Le) Poisson Rouge will feature the first New York City performance by A-Wa, Yemenite folk and electronic dance-music group, indie-blues act The Sway Machinery and DJ Who I am. Rabbi Dan Ain will introduce the night with some Purim stories while members of Antibalas will be part of The Sway Machinery’s horn section.

A few blocks away, SOB’s will host their own Purim Night Concert celebration. Their show will bring together longstanding jam act Soulfarm and The Heavenly Jams Band, the latter group features Noah Lehrman (Gratefully Yours, The Superstars) on drums, Wiley Griffin (Teddy Midnight) on guitar and Mitchell Harrison (Moshiach Oi) on bass. Meanwhile, over in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Bowl will host world/Hasidic soul band Zusha’s annual Purim show. BIGYUKI will open the night.
