After announcing the debut album and a summer tour from his new project with Sean Lennon, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Primus’ Les Claypool has revealed that the band was only his second choice of project to focus on this year.

As JamBase reports, the bio section of The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s website has a few quotes about the projects genesis, including the duo’s first collaboration when Lennon sat in with Primus on “Southbound Pachyderm,” along with Claypool’s original desire to reunite his short-lived trio with Phish frontman Trey Anastasio and Police drummer Stewart Copeland.

“I was trying to wrangle up an Oysterhead reunion since Primus was taking a rest for 2016 but the planets just wouldn’t align for that,” says Claypool. “I don’t like sitting around, so when Sean said he didn’t have plans for this next year, we started kicking around the notion of making an old-school, psychedelic/prog record. Next thing I know, he’s staying in my guesthouse, drinking my vino and banging on my drums.”

Oysterhead first came together in 2000 and released their only album, The Grand Pecking Order, in 2001. The band reunited for a one-off festival performance at Bonnaroo in 2006.
