Umphrey’s McGee closed out their west coast run with a show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles that featured some unique covers including a debut of Frank Zappa’s “Treacherous Cretins” featuring Arther Barrow, who played bass in Zappa’s band in the 70s and 80s.

Barrow emerged following the new tune “Attachments” in the first set to replace Ryan Stasik on the UM original “Soul Food I” which led into the cut from Zappa’s 1981 record Shut Up ‘n Play Yer Guitar. Barrow also stayed on for “Glory” which came out of the Zappa tune before Stasik returned for the end of the set.

The rest of the show was highlighted by a rare cover of Mark Ronson’s “Daffodils,” which emerged out of “Puppet String” in the second set, a set that included some of the band’s heaviest arrangements like “Hurt Bird Bath” and a closing “Hindsight.”

In the encore, Brendan Bayliss led the group through R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” and then closed the show with a 1-2 punch of “Upward” and the ending section of “Puppet String.”
