Mike Dillon has announced that he will release his newest album, Functioning Broke, on April 29 via Royal Potato Family. The solo album will feature Dillon on various percussion instruments playing select covers of Elliott Smith, Neil Young and more, along with four new originals.

The album features six Smith songs including “Between the Bars,” “Independence Day,” “Half Right” and “Christian Brothers,” along with Young’s “The Needle & The Damage Done” and Martin Denny’s “The Enchanted Sea.”

“I had been playing around with Elliott Smith songs as I enjoyed the harmonic movement of his songwriting,” Dillon says. “So in between Primus tours last year, I went into the studio and started tracking the various members of the mallet and percussion family like marimba, xylophone, timpani, orchestral bells, tubular bells, tabla and congas. What I originally thought was a fun little side project quickly became something that my pals said I should complete and release as a proper album.”
