Umphrey’s McGee resumed their tour through the South with a special appearance at The Major Rager, a concert put on in Augusta, GA to signal the start of the Masters Tournament.

The group added to the event by playing an “All Night Wrong” set for their first set, comprised of all covers and featuring special guests Natalie Cressman, Jen Hartswick and Charleston, SC musician Mike Quinn throughout.

Over the course of the first set, the band debuted covers of Led Zeppelin’s “Dancing Days” out of the opening 1-2 punch of Pink Floyd’s “In the Flesh” and “Another Brick in the Wall.” The horn section joined in for “Don’t Stop til You Get Enough” before Keith Jenkins replaced Brendan Bayliss for a debut of James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good).” Jenkins was a one-time guitarist for James Brown’s band and the tune also featured Sharon Jones and Amy Christian (a member of Brown’s background singer group) on vocals.

The rest of the set was comprised of some of the group’s go-to covers including The Doobie Brothers’ “Black Water,” The Band’s “Ophelia,” both of which also featured Christian on vocals. Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and the first “I Want a New Drug” since the band played it with Huey Lewis himself at Summer Camp 2011. Paul Simon’s “Late in the Evening,” Wings’ “Live and Let Die,” Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” and a Jen Hartswick-led “Barracuda” brought the set to a rousing close.

The second set would feature no guests, although the group did dip into some of their live staples, including “Phil’s Farm,” “Resolution,” “Hajimemashite” and “Wappy Sprayberry.” The newer “Bad Friday” brought the evening to a close.

Umphrey’s will return to the stage tonight at The Ritz in Raleigh, NC.
