Two days ago, the news broke that Widespread Panic will not be touring after this year, at least more than a couple shows per year, and the band’s set at Florida’s Wanee Music Festival last night kicked off what has essentially become something of a farewell year of shows for the group, with some help from two special guests.

To close out the first of their two sets at the festival, Widespread welcomed two out of the four members of Gov’t Mule to the Peach Stage, Warren Haynes and Danny Louis. The pair, who had played with the Mule earlier in the day, came out for an encore performance of ZZ Top’s “Waitin’ For The Bus” and “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” with Haynes on guitar and vocals and Louis adding in some keyboard work. The band then closed out their performance with “Bowlegged Woman” by themselves.

In addition to his performance with Widespread Panic, Haynes also joined Billy & The Kids earlier in the day during their Wanee set. The guitarist emerged near the end of the group’s performance for a take on “Deal.” Haynes also joined Billy & The Kids at Gathering of the Vibes this past August.

Widespread Panic will return to Wanee’s Peach Stage tonight for their final set of the weekend.
