Pearl Jam returned to Madison Square Garden in New York City last night for their first show at the famed arena since 2010 and marked their comeback with a 35-song, nearly three hour show that touched on all corners of the band’s extensive repertoire.

Among the highlights include the tour debuts of tunes like “The End,” which Eddie Vedder played acoustic to kick off the first encore. The song hadn’t been performed since November 29, 2013.

Towards the end of the first encore, which spanned 11 songs, Vedder stepped to the mic to tell a humorous story about a friend of his who claims that while Vedder is one of his favorite singers, “you’re not as good as this other guy.” With that, the band launched into a cover of The Doobie Brothers’ “Takin’ It to the Streets,” a live debut for the band. The snippet led right into the aggressive Vitalogy track “Whipping.”

The second encore was highlighted by some of the band’s biggest live staples including “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” which was played on an abbreviated setup at the back of the stage. The band closed the show with tunes like “Alive,” “Rockin’ in the Free World” and “Indifference,” as Eddie Vedder threw his customary tambourines into the crowd.
