After playing their first show at the venue since 2010 the previous night, Pearl Jam returned to the Madison Square Garden stage last night for another marathon performance that included 32 songs, two encores, audience participation and an appearance by both Sting and two members of Cheap Trick.

The 17-tune regular set included Pearl Jam classics like “Even Flow,” “Better Man, “Jeremy” and the set-closer “Do the Evolution,” plus a sit in from Rick Nielsen and Tom Petersson of recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Cheap Trick, who played Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready’s 50th birthday party earlier this year. Nielsen and Petersson joined the band for Cheap Trick’s “Surrender.” Watch a video of that performance above.

For their first encore, frontman Eddie Vedder came out on solo acoustic guitar with The Beatles’ “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” handing over the microphone to an audience member a few songs later for some verses of “Breath” and closing out the first extra frame by appearing in the middle of MSG’s GA floor audience for “Porch.”

Encore number two began with the band singing their cover of Wayne Cochran’s “Last Kiss” to the audience seated behind the stage. After the band jumped into a cover of The Police’s “Driven to Tears,” Police frontman Sting himself sauntered to the microphone to help out on vocals for the tune before retreating backstage again. The second encore also included a cover of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” during which Vedder tossed some tambourines into the crowd, and the night was closed out with a solo Mike McCready playing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
