While attending the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week in support of the new Stooges documentary Gimme Danger, Iggy Pop had some choice words for the current state of the music industry during a press conference, Rolling Stone reports.

“The digital age has made collecting money so incredibly efficient,” Pop said. “When we started our band we didn’t know what publishing was. Now you can push a button and get rich quick.” He also railed against the digital trend in recording music, saying it limited the passion that artists like Pop can put into live and analog music. “It’s like, ‘Why don’t I just die now?’”

Pop spoke briefly on the recent string of deaths of iconic musicians of his era and circles, wondering half-jokingly at the reason he’s still sticking around. “For some reason I seem to have been able to regenerate from the various things I put into myself,” Pop said. “Just by trying to take it easy or go to bed early.”
