Earlier this spring, Los Angeles-based publishing house Rare Bird Books issued Might As Well, the debut novel by Jambands.com founder/Relix editor Dean Budnick. The book revisits the East Coast Grateful Dead scene of the late 1980’s through the perspectives of seven individual concertgoers. In a new interview with a New Jersey newspaper, Budnick discusses the origins of the book, which began with a show he attended at the Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, N.J., on October 14, 1989 where a Deadhead named Adam Katz was killed in a manner that remains unsolved. The article explores the series of events that led to the publication of Might As Well. An excerpt from the book appears at Relix.com.
