As Phish frontman Trey Anastasio revealed last month, the band is still currently working on their upcoming album, which features production from Bob Ezrin. Now, more information about the album has come from percussionist Andrés Forero, who plays in the Broadway musical phenomenon Hamilton and will be featured on the album.

Forero talked with the Democrat & Chronicle (via JamBase) about meeting Anastasio when Phish came to see Hamilton after their New Year’s Eve run at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

“He was so sweet,” says Forero. “He said, ‘My name is Trey, this is my wife and this is the rest of my band Phish.’” Forero only later realized who the guitarist was and emailed Anastasio, who replied by inviting Forero to play on some new songs he was working on. According to Forero, the two developed a strong musical relationship. “We had such a synergy between us,” he says, noting that the few songs turned into the entire album, with Forero participating on every track.

Also of note in the interview was Forero’s revealing some details of one of the album’s tracks. “One was a 15-minute piece with classical percussion,” he says. “Even though I double majored in college in classical and jazz, it’s been a while for me. Of course, I agreed to do it.”
