Legendary keyboardist and former member of Parliament Funkadelic and Talking Heads Bernie Worrell has passed away at the age of 72.

Worrell’s death was confirmed by his wife Judie on Facebook with a message saying, “At 11:54, June 24, 2016, Bernie transitioned Home to The Great Spirit. Rest in peace, my love—you definitely made the world a better place. Till we meet again, vaya con Dios.”

Worrell made his mark as a founding member of Parliament-Funkadleic, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He also made waves with Talking HEads, recording on albums like Speaking in Tongues and Stop Making Sense. Over the years, Worrell found himself in the studio with the likes of Les Claypool, Mos Def, Eric McFadden and many others.

The keyboardist was diagnosed with lung cancer in January and declined over the months that followed. Worrell’s wife last update came on June 16 that said he was “headed ‘Home’.”
