In a new interview with the New York Times, Paul Simon suggests that his musical career could be winding to a close.

The profile portrays a tired and aging Simon who at 74 needs 15 hours of sleep and struggles with his eyesight.

“It’s an act of courage to let go,” Simon told the NYT. “I am going to see what happens if I let go. Then I’m going to see, who am I? Or am I just this person that was defined by what I did? And if that’s gone, if you have to make up yourself, who are you?”

Simon’s North American tour comes to a close later this week with two shows in Forest Hills Stadium in Queens where Simon grew up and fostered a songwriting relationship with Art Garfunkel. When asked if these shows could be his final U.S. gigs ever, Simon says “I don’t have any fear of it.”

Simon has a European tour slated for the fall where he will turn 75 and according to the piece has “vague plans” to travel for a year.
