Singer-songwriter and activist Jill Sobule is heading up a group of socially conscious artists who are aiming to create My Song is My Weapon, an online social protest platform, and now the project has a crowdfunding campaign on PledgeMusic asking fans to donate to help it become a reality.

As the campaign page describes, “My Song is My Weapon is a virtual square with a soapbox—a communal online space where people can gather to express themselves in song, art, poetry or plain old primal screams. It’s the 21st -century, Internet-savvy update of the grand American tradition of social protest.”

Some exclusive items are available via the campaign, including a new compilation of protest songs called Monster Protest Jamz, Vol. 1, which features artists like Sobule, Amanda Palmer, Tom Morello, Todd Rundgren, Margaret Cho and more.
