Phish wrapped up their three night stint at Saratoga Springs’ Performing Arts Center with a show anchored by one of the best versions of “Moma Dance” in the modern Phish era.

The show started out, however, on a rather down note as the quartet struggled to gather any sort of momentum leading to sloppy playing, most notably in tunes like “Sugar Shack” which continues to be a struggle for the group. Awkward flow and lackluster playing unfortunately plagues the set as the band brought it to a close with tunes like “It’s Ice,” “Guelah Papyrus,” “Ocelot,” “Scent of a Mule” and “Possum.”

The second set was decidedly different as the group came out with the first “Soul Shakedown Party” since October 22, 2014 and just the sixth version of the song in the modern era. The aforementioned “Moma Dance” that followed provided the highlight of the show, as the group treated it to a rare moment of improv, stretching out to nearly 18 minutes before finding its way into “Twist.”

From there, the group rounded out the set with newer songs “Joy” and “Breath and Burning” as well as tour debuts of “Axilla” and the first Phish version of “Show of Life” in three years. The band returned for a one-song encore of “Rock and Roll” before departing.

Phish’s tour continues July 6 in Portland, ME.
