Phish continued their tour last night at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, ME, with a performance that featured several tour debuts and a couple of minor bustouts in an evening that included 25 songs but lacked the improvisational depth that has been seen in a few instances so far in the first half of the summer tour.

The quartet kicked things off by gathering around the microphone for an a capella rendition of “Grind,” the first of six tour debuts on the night, before they dove into the first set with an energetic run of tunes that started out with the first “Cars Trucks Buses” since October 29, 2013 and continued with “Blaze On,” the Mike Gordon led “Yarmouth Road,” “Kill Devil Falls” and the tour debut of “The Sloth.” The second half of the first set featured more songs that have been in the rotation so far in the tour, including a few Fuego cuts like “555” and “The Line.” The set was closed out with a “Stash” that upped the energy as the band went into the break.

The second set started on a high note with “First Tube” into “Tweezer” before “Guyute” appeared for the first time since Halloween 2014. “Mike’s Song” then led into a low-energy run of tunes that was highlighted only by the bustout of “Bittersweet Motel,” the first since July 4, 2012, or 146 shows. The second “Fluffhead” of the tour brought the crowd back into it, and the set was rounded out with the fan favorite “Weekapaug Groove.” The tour debut of “Contact” and a “Tweezer Reprise” closer comprised the encore.

Phish return to the stage tomorrow at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA.
