Pearl Jam played an intimate festival show in Telluride, CO last night as they headlined The Ride Festival, marking their Telluride debut.

Among the highlights from the 29-song set, the first performance of “Angel” since March 13, 1994 and just the fifth time ever in the band’s history. Vedder introduced the song, which was originally released as a fan club Christmas single in 1993, by mentioning their former drummer Dave Abbruzzese. “We wish him well,” Vedder said of Abbruzzese, who wrote “Angel.”

The surprises kept coming as the Pearl Jam debut of Vedder’s Into the Wild track “Society” followed. Vedder mentioned that it was a request from a local shortly before the band took the stage.

Later on in the show, the band welcomed out Brittany Hale and Catilin Ketel to singalong briefly to “Daughter.” Vedder noted that he heard there was a Pearl Jam karaoke contest in town earlier in the week and joked he “could have at least come in third on a good day.” Hale and Ketel won the contest and joined Vedder for snippets of the chorus of “Daughter.”

As this was Pearl Jam’s first show since the outbreak of violence around the country, Vedder prefaced “Unthought Known” by mentioning that while they haven’t addressed it directly “doesn’t mean it isn’t on our minds.” From there, the rest of the set included a take on “Better Man” before the group broke for the encore break.

The band returned for another bustout in the form of another fan club Christmas single, this time from 2008 as Vedder led the group on “Santa Cruz” for the first time since 2010. He altered the lyrics of the song to include mentions of Telluride before dedicating a cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” to Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers, who performed as a part of Dirty Knobs earlier in the day.

The rest of the set saw the band rely on some of their biggest hits like “Given to Fly,” “Black,” “Alive” and “Yellow Ledbetter” along with a pair of notable covers in “Comfortably Numb” and “Crazy Mary.”
