Phish returned to the Bill Graham stage in San Francisco, CA, last night for their second of three nights at the iconic venue, delivering another performance of improvisation-laden live staples, both original tunes and cover favorites.

The night got off to a quick start with an energetic “Chalk Dust Torture” and “Free” before the band went into the recently debuted original “Breath and Burning.” Page McConnell and Jon Fishman then led the way into the jazzy into to “Theme From the Bottom” before Trey Anastasio helped bring the slow-burning tune to a climax. The group then segued into their cover of Talking Heads’ “Cities” and then into “Maze” before playing the first “Wombat” since November 2, 2014. The funky cut preceded “Split Open and Melt,” which began a bit of setlist alliteration with “Sparkle,” “A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing” and another round of the a cappella version of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” that was debuted earlier this summer in Chicago.

The second set started with similar fervor as the second with a “Don with Disease” the featured some soaring guitar work from Anastasio before “Fuego,” “Ghost” and a intro-less “Scents and Subtle Sounds” filled out the middle of the eight-song set. “Light” led into a syncopated jam that eventually fell into the hard-hitting main riff to Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter,” which the band used to segue into the fan favorite “Fluffhead” that closed out the second set. The quartet then returned for a two-song encore of “Bug” and the Anastasio-led instrumental “First Tube” that rounded out the night.
